About The Adornment

The Adornment is a large oil pastel painting on gallery wrap stretched canvas. The subject is a beautiful woman with dark curly hair and golden brown skin. She's elaborately decorated with different flowers and wearing a white dress. The piece was inspired by a wedding gown that evoked in me images of water where there was flowing fabric and flowers where there was lace embellishing.

I started painting it in May 2006 and finished in September. Over 20 different photographs were used as references for the painting and it took about 75 hours to complete. The edges of the canvas are painted blue.

The Adornment has been on display at the Art Gallery of Alberta (formerly Edmonton Art Gallery) and the Shaw Conference Centre.
