Original Paintings by Canadian Artist Anima McKertcher
When creating original paintings, I rely on professional artist grade Holbein and Sennelier oil pastels. They are two of the finest quality oil pastels available today. The scale of my paintings ranges wildly from tiny paintings that are 4” x 6” to large pieces of 60” x 48”. Stretched canvas is my favorite surface for painting. However I also enjoy using Canson Mi-Teinte paper. Canson paper, which is used often with pastels, is high quality archival acid-free paper. I apply and blend the oil pastels on the canvas or paper using various tools and techniques. The result resembles an oil painting in look and feel with a unique and modern edge.
Using oil pastels to paint is a very sensual and enjoyable experience for me. It can be compared to painting with lipstick. The immediacy and flexibility they provide is a wonderful match for my personality. They also make it possible for me to paint using the bold, pure colors that characterize my art work.
I’m often told that my original paintings are even more striking in person than they are on the website. When you’re in the presence of the painting, the colors are richer and more vibrant and the size of the painting adds to its impact. Paintings bring personality and beauty to any room in your home or office. My paintings can be used to heighten a room with a low ceiling, open up a small room or make a large room cozier. Depending on the color palette of the painting, it can brighten up your space and add warmth, tranquility or drama.
