Miniature Oil Pastel and Acrylic Painting: Fractured 2![]() Artwork: Fractured 2 © Anima 4" x 6" (10 cm x 15 cm) acrylic and oil pastel on canson mi-teinte paper Love that BlueIn my teenaged days, blue was my favourite color. Any kind of blue. Royal, navy, cobalt, sky, powder, baby, it didn't matter. I loved them all. And even though my tastes have expanded over the years, I'm still a blue girl. Brown-Eyed GirlFor Fractured 2 I started out with the idea of big beautiful brown eyes. From there it was easy to fall back into my blue habit. Brown and blue naturally complement each other and create a modern, contemporary feel. Why brown eyes? Well it's hard to resist a set of big brown eyes. My four adorable brown-eyed nieces are all the evidence you'll need of that. About Fractured 2Fractured 2 is second in my Fractured series and has a completely different mood than Fractured 1. It's a miniature acrylic and oil pastel mixed-media on canson mi-teinte paper. What Next?Fractured 2 is matted, ready to frame and on sale at my Etsy shop now. Miniature Oil Pastel Painting: Cryptic Eyes 2![]() Why Yellow? This is Cryptic Eyes 2, the second miniature painting in the Cryptic Eyes series. I introduced the first in that series, Cryptic Eyes 1, a couple weeks ago. In an out of character move, I chose yellow for the primary color for this piece. The only other time in recent history that I've used yellow like this was for the fantasy painting, Solare. Maybe my mind was addled by all the wine I'd been tasting before painting this piece. Ter and I were at the Fall Wine Festival in the Okanagan, a trip I highly recommend and would like to repeat in the next couple years. Yellow may not be my favorite color (though I love creams and golds), but I do like how this painting turned out. The contrast of the blue with the yellow and orange makes for an optimistic, bright, sunny effect. Making Cryptic Eyes 2I used Canson Mi-Teinte paper that I'd cut down to 4" x 6" (10cm x 15cm), the size of a OSWOA or Original Small Work of Art. Then I taped out the edge making the image 3.5" x 5.5" (8.75cm x 13.75cm). Oil pastels, always my favorite, was the medium of choice. I had a little fun by using a toothbrush to create the textured background behind the cryptic design. Finally, I matted the finished painting with white 5" x 7" (12.5cm x 17.5cm) Crescent® Conservation Grade Mat. What Next?Cryptic Eyes 2, this bright and cheerful miniature painting, is matted, ready to frame, and on sale in my Etsy shop now. Original ACEO: Shape of a Woman's Back![]() About Shape of a Woman's BackShape of a Woman's Back is the first ACEO (Art Cards, Editions, and Originals) that I've every created. It started as washes of red, pink, and orange acrylic paint on Canson Mi-Teinte paper. Then I mimicked the female form with ink lines. My First ACEOI've wanted to paint ACEOs for several months, but I must admit they challenge me, since typically, my paintings are very large. Even though I've recently begun doing small original works that are 4" x 6" (10cm x 15cm), the ACEO size of 2.5" x 3.5" (6.25cm x 8.75cm) is the smallest I've worked. After Shape of a Woman's Back, I painted two more immediately afterwards and had a lot of fun! I'm anticipating many more ACEOs in the future. What Next? You can purchase this one of a kind original ACEO from my Etsy store. Learn more about Shape of a Woman's Back here, browse my Etsy shop here, or view my fantasy art work here.

Miniature Mixed Media Painting: Fractured 1![]() My Favorite Thing About Fractured 1This is the first in my "Fractured" series depicting a woman's face with only her eye and the top portion of her face visible. My favourite thing about this painting is its intensity. Between the penetrating look from the woman's eye and the contrast between the blue of her iris and the red of the foreground, it's hard to ignore! Details About Fractured 1At 4" x 6" (10cm x 15cm), Fractured 1 is an Original Small Work of Art (OSWOA) or miniature painting. The image size is 3.5" x 5.5" (8.75cm x 13.75cm) and it's matted with white 5" x 7" (12.5cm x 17.5cm) Crescent® Conservation Grade Mat. What Next?Fractured 1, is an original painting and will not be reproduced in any format. Right now, it's matted, ready to frame, and for sale in my Etsy shop. Small Work of Art: Cryptic Eyes 1![]() What I Like About Cryptic Eyes 1Cryptic Eyes 1 is the first in a series of 3 miniature fantasy paintings with the name "Cryptic Eyes". I love the muted pinks and greens in this piece. But I especially like how it contrasts the feeling of intimacy from the close up view of the woman's eyes with mystery since the rest of her face is concealed. What's you're favourite thing about this painting? Details About Cryptic Eyes 1The entire piece is painted with Holbein oil pastels on Canson Mi-Teinte paper. I cut the sheet of Canson paper to 4" x 6" (10cm x 15cm) making this an OSWOA or Original Small Work of Art. The edge of the paper is taped out so the image is 3.5" x 5.5" (8.75cm x 13.75cm). The finished painting is matted with white 5" x 7" (12.5cm x 17.5cm) Crescent® Conservation Grade Mat. What Next?Cryptic Eyes 1, matted and ready to frame, is available for sale in my Etsy shop. It's a one of a kind original that's not being reproduced in any other form! Learn more about Cryptic Eyes 1 here, explore the Art by Anima Etsy shop here, or view more fantasy art here.
