About DreamscapePeaceful. Tranquil. Serene. Those are the words viewers have used to describe Dreamscape. The pastel pinks and purples contribute to soft relaxing effect. The contrasting dark blue of the sky and dark brown of the sleeping man balances out the pinks and purples and grounds the piece. And my favorite part? It begs the question, is he part of the tree or merely lying inside the tree? I used a 20" x 25" sheet of Canson Mi-Teinte for Dreamscape. During the painting process itself, I mounted the sheet on foam core so I could press the oil pastels as hard as I wanted to. Since starting Dreamscape in October 2006, it's been a real start and stop process perhaps because it has such a different feel from the rest of my artwork. The vast majority of it was completed during the 2007 Whyte Avenue Art Walk in July. Then the finishing touches came several months after.
