Day and Night Painting Details
About Day and NightDay and Night, along with its companion painting Night and Day, was an experiment I started in the fall of 2007. The idea of contrasting yet symmetrical paintings suddenly struck me and I started working on Day and Night right away. The foundation of my idea was the rigid geometry of the diamond shape framing the woman's face. I wanted the inside and outside portions of the diamond to oppose each other in color value and subject detail but relate to each other in the general subject of sky and the base color of blue. I also contrasted the straight lines of the diamond with the organic and curved lines of the green flowering vines and the woman's face, shoulders and hair. The woman herself has a creamy pink and white complexion and sparkling green eyes that contrast with her dark brunette hair. Day and Night is a mixed media painting on gallery wrapped stretched canvas. The soft bright blue of the sky is made up of acrylic paint and everything else is oil pastels. 15 hours of painting over the course of one month is about how long the painting took to complete. Prints of Day and NightDay and Night is not available right now as a print. Please let me know, though, if you're interested in buying a print and I'll seriously consider releasing Day and Night as a print.
